It was a cold day but every

thing went off without a hitch.

My whole family flew in for the wedding so we had a lot people at our house for the past week.

I finished the quilt Saturday morning it turned out to take me a lot longer than I expected. so 150 hours later this is what it looked like. The center of the quilt is called English Rose Garden and was from a Australian Magazine. I had started it about 4 years ago and just had the center done. The last border I designed myself as I wanted to make the quilt larger than the original.

Blogs

It's amazing to me that all this time has gone by. I have been busy quilting or piecing since the last time that I posted.

This past week I worked on a custom quilt for Megens Quilt Parlor in Albion Pa. As you can see it was a Irish Chain. Megen loves feathers so this quilt got a lot. She also sent me silk batting ,the quilt turned out wonderful and I would love to hear your comments.

My Nephew Dustin is getting married on Valentines Day , of course I didn't start to make the quilt until last week. The center of the quilt I did 3 years ago in a class but hadn't finished it.

It has a lot of embroidery and I had to finnish that also along with the last 4 borders. The last border was not included in the pattern and I designed that so it would be a larger quilt.

I have two days to quilt it this week wish me luck!!!.

I will post pictures later this week.

Sharon

Have a great week Quilting!!

Field of Green

As promised I have uploaded the close up pictures of the Field of Green quilt. When I started this quilt I had never bought a Batik fabric. I knew all the other people were going to do theirs in a more traditional way so I thought that I would use batik's.

My Daughter was going to be shipped out to Iraq in July of 2005 and I thought this would give me a project to keep my mine occupied.

She went shopping with me and these are the colors I came up with. The quilt was originally going to be a quilt for Andy's and my bed and the colors would fit right in.

The original pattern was from Patchworks Studio there web address is patchworkstudio.com and it was there Club Medallion for 2000.

End of Henriettas Story

I have added another Quilt that I made and quilted. It was a mystery quilt that our Happy Scrappers Guild stated 3 years ago. 12 members are making the quilt and 4 have completed the quilt. It was nice to see 3 of them side by side at the show. The different interpretations are interesting to look at. Mine is shown with my First place Ribbon.

Make sure you look at it close up I think the quilting turned out very well. tommorrow I will add the close up shots of the quil

Now for the rest of Henrietta's quilt story.

The day of the quilt show was beautiful , It was homecoming for Union City and they had a large Parade with the Homecoming court , fire trucks and Bands from neighboring towns ,the usual small town parade. All the guild members were at the show welcoming people as they came to view the quilts. Henrietta was there with her Daughter and her Granddaughter looking at all the quilts, I stopped to talk to her about how well that her quilt had done, and she thanked me again for quilting it for her. While we talked we both said how we wanted to have our pictures taken with the quilt. We both had not brought our cameras and made arrangements t meet the next day to do that. While talking to her she said she was going to give the quilt to her Daughter. I knew that her Granddaughter had hoped that Henrietta would give her the quilt, so I mentioned to Henrietta that Annette would like one also.

Henrietta continued to look at the quilts and entered all of our drawings ( we kidded her a lot because she was so lucky she had won our Large Gift Basket the last two years).

After lunch Henrietta came up to me and told me that She had decided to make Annette the same quilt and she was going to have me quilt it. I said great I would love to. Just after this she told her Granddaughter that she didn't feel well and she needed to sit down. She Slumped over and we called 911 who responded quickly and administered CPR until they got her to the hospital but it was to late Henrietta had had a heart attack and passed away.

I hope that I can go this way Henrietta had had a wonderful morning visiting with her family and friends and looking at beautiful quilts.

I will always have fond memories of Henrietta Miller.

Happy Piecing

Sharon Sweetland

Sweetlandquilts@yahoo.com

Henrietta's Quilt Part 3

In June of this year Henrietta And her Granddaughter brought the Dresden Plate quilt top and another quilt top that was made up of butterflies done in Batiks.
We discussed how I was going to quilt the two tops and she decided to let me quilt them however I felt they needed to be done.
I decided to quilt them with a Dresden plate mofit set ( designed by Deb Geissler) in the corners where the blocks connected and simple medium stippling surrounding them and the applique.
For the borders I used the same Dresden plate pattern in the corners with Debs matching border design. The applique was quilted 1/4 inch in side with a small flower design in the center square.
What the Judges told me they liked about the quilting that it was simple and fit the design of the applique. This quilt also took Judges choice.
If anyone would like to make this quilt I am going to try to upload the pattern for the applique in the next several days.
This quilts finnished size was 68x72 the cost for quilting was $175.00
Happy Quilting
Sharon@sweetlandofquilts.com

Sweetland of Quilts

In June of this year I received a top from one of our guild members that her grandmother had made. Annette's Grandmother came along to talk to me about how I would quilt the top.

Most of the time when I receive a top the client has no idea how they want the quilt quilted, so I will chat with them a bit about the quilt to get ideas on how they are going to use the quilt. While talking to Henrietta (Annette's Grandmother 91 years young) she told me a story about why she had made this particular quilt this summer.

The story started out in Pittsburgh Pa when she was young girl growing up and she wanted to learn how to put a quilt together. Her next door neighbor showed her how to make a Dresden Plate. Over the next several months or years, (She really didn't say) she made the quilt all by hand and placed it in her cedar chest. Eventually she married Mr. Miller and they moved to Canadota Lake Pa. Mr Miller built cottages for summer people over the years and they owned the local tavern Pal-of Mine.

Henrietta said she had not thought about the quilt for years but this past winter she decided she would get it out. But low and behold she couldn't find it. Mr. Miller she is assuming took the Quilt and used it to move furniture or something. Henrietta kept thinking abut the quilt and decided to make one.

I will continue with Henrietta's story next time

Best Long Arm Quilting

Hi everybody,
I have to get more energetic in getting my Blog done. I have been very busy quilting and I wanted to tell you all about our local Quilt Show. I belong to the Happy Scrapper Quilt Guild in Union City Pa. On September 20Th and 21St we had our bi-annul show. We had 125 entries, it is our Major money raiser and we did quite well by raffling a Gift Basket, Small Baby Quilt and quilt rack.
Every Year about this time we give donations to the local charities such as Horizon House, and our local food pantry. Many of our Guild member donate there time to making quilt tops that I quilt for us to give to Horizon House which is a agency for battered women plus local fire victims. This year we made and quilted 9 quilts for these charities.
I was honored to have a quilt I quilted chosen for the best long arm quilting. This is my first full year for quilting and I was very excited as there were many more entries that other longarmers quilted. There is a story to this quilt and I will tell you all about it next time.
Happy Quilting
Sharon

Quilting Examples

Learning CS

As you know I have a Statler Stitcher longarm Just recently I updated it with Creative Studio software. I am still working my day job as a Quality Technician at a local plastics plant. The plan was to buy my quilting machine and then retire when it was paid off.
